Ongoing Activities
Work in progress consists of:
• a zoning program;
• provision of additional water intakes;
• widening of the distribution network; and
• increase of the service coverage ratio.

It is expected that the above activities will be completed by 2007.

Key Problems
• Unaccounted-for-water is 34% of total production.
• Unserviced customers account for 34.3% of the total population of the Municipality of Malang.
• Tariffs are not affordable to 12.6% of existing customers according to a USAID-sponsored survey which was conducted in 2000.

Training Activities
The overall objectives of the ongoing training programs are:
• ensure that the PDAM has human resources in desired quantity and quality;
• ensure that the right person is in the right place at the right time; and
• ensure that all employees are able to undertake their tasks efficiently and effectively, in a manner which is consistent with the overall objectives of the PDAM.

Donors Programs
• Preparation of a Corporate Plan for PDAM Kota Malang covering 2000-2004 was funded by USAID (under the Clean Urban Project);
• A socio-economic survey of PDAM customers in 2000 was funded by USAID (with the Directorate-General of Local Government Affairs acting as implementing agency); and
• GTZ and the Government of Belgium provided a grant in kind (laboratorium equipment).
