Ongoing Programs
(a) Increase the capacity of the water intake at Broni from 300 l/s to 600 l/s, and improve the distribution system, from reticulation pipes to additional household connections.
(b) Customer registration through digital mapping, to be further developed into a GIS which could be used to:
• Speed up the installation of new household connections and better identify the location of water users, in order to better address customer complaints.
• Monitor the performance of meter readers with the objective to increase water sales and reduce non-revenue water (NRW).
• Simulate water distributions and thereby reduce unaccounted-for-water (UfW).
• Improve customer service.
(c) Migration of a Management Information System (MIS) under DOS to a Windows-based system, and on-line integration with physical payment points.

Problems that need to be addressed
(a) Non-revenue water is still and currently accounts for 38% of total production, mainly because of high levels of unaccounted-for-water.
(b) At 48%, service coverage is still fairly low, but increased water sales would require additional investments in the distribution system.
(c) The "Factor A" tariff is still relatively low (Rp. 600/m3 for households; this tariff is in place since October 2000), whereas the average cost price is in the order of Rp. 1,250/ m3. It is estimates that the Faktor A tariff should to increase to Rp. 900/m3 in 2003.
(d) Electricity is the largest cost item and accounts for Rp. 310 million or 24% of total revenues.
