The Water Company of the City of
Jambi (Perusahaan Daerah Air Minum Kota Jambi)
is a local company owned by the Municipality of Jambi
with the objective of providing clean water to its citizens
through a piped system. The PDAM, named "Tirta
Mayang", currently provides piped water to 48% of
the municipal population.

(i) The Municipality of Jambi covers
an area of about 205 km2, and is divided in 8 districts.
In 2001, the total population was estimated at 425,300.
(ii) The most important source of raw water is the Batanghari
river , which accounts for 98% of the total intake;
the remaining 2% is sourced from deep wells, with the
river's debit ranging from 30 to 50 NTUs in the dry
season and from 80 to 120 NTUs in the rainy season.
The iron content of water from deep wells is in the
order of 3–5 ppm.
(iii) The installed capacity is at present 668 l/s,
and is expected to be increased to 968 l/s by the end
of 2002.
(iv) Pumps are used for the intake of raw water to the
distribution to water users, with 100% of the electrical
energy being supplied by PLN (there are no generators
in use, except in the PDAM's offices).
